Disney Junior: Soarin’ Over Summer

Doc McStuffins and Henry Hugglemonster might not be household names… unless you’ve got a Disney Junior fan in your house. For this project, the team and I needed to combine eight different animated properties into a seamless piece, all with distinct looks and styles, in a way that made them feel like parts of a cohesive world. To achieve this, we used a theme of wild, soaring flight to tie the scenes together, from the literal flight of Mickey’s plane and Sofia’s horse to the exhilarating flight of the camera itself through the incredible range of magical spaces.

Most viewers will assume we took already produced clips and edited them together to produce this piece. In fact, we inherited over 5TBs of 3D assets from 6 different production studios. This meant matching the various studio production workflows, re-rigging 36 characters, and recreating hundreds of shaders to mimic existing look and feels, among many other technical hurdles.

I was honored to be the animation director and creative director on this one.
